the Avalon in Boston, MA

March 25, 2007

My big discovery on this trip to Boston was the Lower Depths Tap Room on Commonwealth. A bunch of us went there after the show. John and I had the fantastic house burger. The fries were described by our LD as possibly “the perfect fry.” I disagreed only because they were seasoned, and in my opinion, the perfect fry would wear only salt. Anyway, great place for a pint and a burger. Not necessarily the place to have a quiet dinner. In that case, I’d opt for the Eastern Standard. They are slightly upscale, but have good Boston fare. Jenny had an amazing salad with sweet breads last time. She didn’t know what sweet breads were when she ordered it, though, and was very grossed out.

I found that the fries at the tap room were delicious as well. I also found, that after having eaten said fries, that the plethora of sausage stands in front of the Avalon were too good to pass up. My upper and lower G.I as well as everyone on the bus wish that I had. I sampled the Tri Tip sandwich, and am better for it.

Also solid, not too close to the venue but well worth it.This place serves all you can eat Briazilian BBQ for $20. Plenty of watering holes close by as well.
